SAIPAN Mayor Ramon B. Camacho will revive the Neighborhood Watch Task Force in the villages.

“I cannot do this alone — we need to help each other,” Camacho said, adding that it is in the best interest of neighbors to look after each other.

“When you are in an emergency, or you get sick, who is the first person that can help you? Usually it is your neighbor,” he added.

Camacho said peace and order should start in the village.

“We are one community, and we have the responsibility to look after each other,” he added.

He said many crimes could have been prevented if witnesses had reported what they saw.

Camacho said the Neighborhood Watch Task Force will encourage people living in the same area to make their neighborhood safer by working together and in conjunction with the police.

The Neighborhood Watch Task Force was first formed by Camacho over a decade ago when he was still a member of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council.

He said the revived neighborhood watch will “enhance the safety, security and protection of community members.”

It will also participate in community outreach activities such as after-school activities for teens, village revitalization and community cleanups, he added.
